Casper Mountain

A visit to Casper would not be complete without a trip to Casper Mountain. Less than thirty minutes from downtown is Casper Mountain. Some activities to do here:

Edness Kimball Wilkins (EKW) State Park

EKW is located six miles east of Casper along the banks of the North Platte River. Some activities to do here:

Swimming (Pond)

Canoeing (Pond)

Wildlife viewing

Picnicking (Barbecue Grills)

Entrance fee: $2 for resident vehicle, $3 nonresident vehicle

Garden Creek Falls / Bridle Trail

Garden Creek Falls is located six miles south of Casper heading up Casper Mountain road. The falls are just minutes from the parking area. The Bridle Trail is a 4.5 mile dirt trail which can be accessed also from the parking lot. Some activities to do here:

Alcova Lake

Alcova Lake is located 30 miles southwest of Casper on Hwy 220. Some activities to do here:

Historical

Following the North Platte River through Casper was the Oregon/Mormon Pioneer/California/Pony Express Trails. Visit the new National Historic Trails Interpretive Center to learn all about this history.

v    Fort Caspar was a military post in the 1860's and site of a bridge and ferry crossing. The fort was named after Lt. Caspar Collins (yes the city is named after him).
